Twitter rolls out the option to download all tweets to some users

It would appear that the multiple promises of Twitter CEO Dick Costolo to make downloadable tweets available by the end of 2012 are now being fulfilled.

You would soon be able to download all of your tweets since your account was created, and some users have already been privileged to try out this new feature. Twitter has begun a gradual roll-out of the ability to download every tweet you’ve ever created into an archive that resembles a calendar.

According to Indian blogger Navjot Singh, one of the very first few to get his hands on his tweet archive, you can find the option to download your tweets (Request your archive) by going to the bottom of your settings page – if it is already available for you.

Singh explained further and even made a screenshot of Twitter’s email available to The Next Web as quoted below:

“Twitter informs that they will mail you the download link when the archive is ready. Yes, its just like how Facebook’s archive system works. Once you get the mail and download it you will get a zip file with archive in html form. Extracting it and you will see all your tweets sorted in calendar format.”

Twitter has confirmed to The Next Web that it is currently testing the ability to download tweets with “a very small percentage” of users.

Perhaps this is Twitter’s gift for the yuletide; are you going to check your account right away for this feature? If you do find the option to request your tweets archive, are you in a hurry to get the archive or would you be hesitant? On a lighter note, this user found his early tweets rather embarrassing!

Come back here to share your experience with us as soon as you are able to get your hands on your own tweets archive.
